SLJ Teaser Week 1 - Pepeha

Equal Pay for Equal Work?

Fiao'o Fa'amausili was the captain of the New Zealand Black Ferns, our national women’s rugby team, until 2018. The Black Ferns have been a very successful team, winning the Women’s Rugby World Cup a record five times. Wow!
Despite this success, the Black Ferns have only recently become professional rugby players who are paid to play rugby. Although they are paid, the Black Ferns make less money than members of the men’s professional rugby team - the All Blacks. This difference in pay is often called the ‘gender pay gap’ and it is not uncommon in sports.
What do you think about this?
I think its unfair because of the effort that the Black Ferns put in as well as the All Blacks.  They are playing the same game as the All Blacks.  All though the Men's team has a more larger pack weight the women cans till go as fast and as powerful against the other women.
Is it fair?
-No it isn't fair.
Should female athletes, like the Black Ferns, be paid the same amount as male athletes who play the same sport?
- Yes they should be paid the same.

Basketball. Why I think the Lakers are going to win this year.

In the 2018 season of the NBA, The Toronto Raptors won the Championship against the
Golden State Warriors.  He hit a lucky shot in the corner of the three pointer line.
But this Season the Lakers have an overpowering team.  I still think that the Warriors will end up
in the finals but the Lakers have better people. People like - Lebron James, Anthony Davis,
Dwight Howard, Demarcus Cousins. So on and so on. The clippers have 2 really good people,
Paul george and Kawhi Leonard.  But they don’t have any really good players like them.
The rockets still have James harden, Russel Westbrook and Gerald Green.
The nets have Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Deandre Jordan and Joe Harris.
I think that having Deandre will be a big advantage with bocking and dunking.  Same with K.D

El Rancho Trip

On Tuesday the 10th of September, Half of the year 7&8 department of Otaki College went to the El Rancho Camp in Waikanae.   My class and 2 others came.  And the others went the next day.  On the day we were put into groups and had three set activities.  My groups activities were - Soft Archery,  Go-Karts and Rock Climbing.

Rock Climbing
Our first activity was rock climbing.  Being the person I am,  I of course go for the hardest and biggest one there is.  This one had a electric rope so you could just jump off when you wanted.  And the others were easy ( for me ).  There was a rock wall in the corner of the room and it went from one layer and then you went out and up.  That one was tricky.  And for one of the easier ones I did it blind folded.

Soft Archery
For our second activity we did soft archery.  We got to shoot each other in this one.  The instructor taught us how to aim and shoot the arrows and let us to choose our teams.  I went against my friends and got hit about 15 times.  The instructor didn't teach us how to keep the arrow from going off of the aiming frame.   We kept hitting each other in the face and it started to hurt. We finally ended with a fair game but my team lost.

Go-Karts.
Our final activity was Go-Karts.  This wasn't what I thought it would be because I thought they were going to go a little faster than what they did.  We took turns in the Go-Karts and had 3 laps each.  We got timed and the Results were in>  Lauren came 1st in the side-by-side with 40 seconds. I came second in the Go-Kart with 41 seconds and Lachie came 3rd in the Go-Kart with 42 seconds.

El Rancho was fun and those were my Highlights.
